Basil Sheil's bar and restaurant is situated in Tassagh, conveniently situated just 6 miles from Armagh City. A perfect and idyllic countryside location for dining, weddings, events, accommodation or just getting together and catching up with friends. You will discover a unique, warm and inviting venue that provides great food, great drink, great atmosphere a unique warm and welcoming service.
The Restaurants character features a touch of old world class, making it the perfect location for a classic and unique dining experience. Guests are treated to a great selection of delicious selection of food and fine wine.
Choose from our cosy and intimate snugs, main bar, vast beer garden and enjoy an evening of entertainment, where there is variety of live and popular music and artists every Friday and Saturday night. With a treasure trove of antiques and memorabilia from yesteryear and many eccentric nooks and corners to discover at Basil Sheils, is a venue you need to visit and experience. We booked a restaurant table here for a Sunday evening and decided to bring the motorhome to stay for the night. The location is nice and our overnight stay was quite peaceful. We arrived early and had a few drinks in the bar. The staff were very pleasant and the bar was quite busy with mostly local people. On entering the restaurant we were greeted by a waitress and shown to our table. The restaurant decor and surroundings are nice with a lovely glass roof that really opens the place up. Service was good and again the staff were very pleasant. The food was good also however there were a few issues that brought the level of quality down a little. We both had the brie for starters and we felt that it should have been cooked a bit longer as the cheese wasn't melted enough and it was still a bit cold in the middle. I must add that it didn't stop me from finishing mine and I did enjoy it. My wife had the burger for mains and I the sirloin steak with creamy garlic potatoes. We both agreed that our mains was fine and we opted not to have a dessert. The portions are decent and the service was good and for those reasons I will probably return again but I won't be making a beeline for it. One issue we also had was the staff cleaning up and placing the chairs on the tables, upside down whilst we and others were still eating makes you feel like they want you out, at 8pm. Don't let those issues put you off, it's worth calling in and trying for yourself.

Loved this place! We just went for a drink And the staff were amazing, even though they had stopped serving food they still brought us chips for the table. We had a great night will definitely be making this place a regular for atmosphere, service and just a perfect place to go for some fun and to relax

We ate at Sheils Bar & Restaurant twice during our visit and really enjoyed it both times. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the traditional Irish setting gives the place a great atmosphere.Definitely somewhere we’d return to and highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Stayed in the camper van park a couple of days ago. Really lovely setting and the folks that run the bar are really nice. Had a fantastic burger and garlic potatoes. And a couple of very nice pints of Guinness. Will definitely go back that way and stay a bit longer.

We stayed in our campervan hooked up EHU £20 really quite night.We were then given back £10 voucher for food which we used for breakfast.Terrific pub, great Guinness , we had a brilliant night with the local people and the owners.Will definitely be returning once i have recovered.😊

Well, it was an experience. All the staff were lovely. Connor particularly took time to chat. The steak was beautifully cooked. The rabble of lads in the car park from 2am to 5am was not so fabulous.

I won a competition with Basil Sheils for an overnight stay in any of their properties! We chose Kings Cottage and had a wonderful relaxing night away! The house is just beautiful and their wood fired hot tub was amazing! We went for dinner beforehand in the restaurant and it was lovely! We enjoyed a few drinks in the bar sitting beside the fire. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone, the staff were very accommodating and even gifted us a bottle of Prosecco at the accommodation!

I’ve eaten in many places in my time but this place is just outstanding, you definitely won’t go hungry that’s for sure, the food is absolutely amazing I can’t fault it in any way! The service everything was first class 👌👌👌 I can’t wait to come back again

We had my daughters holy communion in Basil Shiels last week and I cannot recommend them enough! Food was amazing, service second to none, kids had a ball & excellent value!

We had our wedding here in August 2021. From the day and hour we booked, the staff, especially Geraldine & Michelle, they could not do enough for us. They kept in touch and asked exactly what we wanted. Nothing was too big or too difficult, sheils agreed to all our requests and made it happen. From start to finish our day was exactly what we wanted, the staff were so attentive and friendly, the head chef Connor & crew completely blew us away with his food (everyone raved about every dish) simply beautiful food. Wedding or not the food is too die for! It's lashed from start to finish on our wedding day and the staff were so accomadating and made sure this made no impact on our day! The atmosphere was relaxed, which was our main 'want' for our day, and we couldn't help but make a run for it to the bridge for some photographs in the beautiful surroundings. We could not recommend Basil Sheils enough if you are looking a wedding venue or even just to go for dinner or a night out. We had the best day, & Sheils made everything so easy and stress free. Thank you to all the staff.
